RESULTS & RECAP: Sellard, Burkhart and Gearhart Win Opening Night of the Dave Garmann Memorial
Dodge City, Kan 6/14/2024 (www.racedcrp.com) - The High Plains Kansas DirtCar Late Model Series presented by Nutrien Ag Solutions stormed into Dodge City, Kansas Friday night with 86 other race teams to compete in the Dave Garmann Memorial.
The night featured IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods, and IMCA Stocks to help fill out the program. The night started with Hot Laps for all classes. In the stock car hot laps, two cars got together eventually sending Christian Gonser on his roof. The driver was ok and the night resumed….
With heat races scheduled and ran, all the lineups were ready for the main features as drivers anticipated the wait to get on the track.
In the Northern Sport Mod division, Cody Geirhart found his way to victory lane for the first time this year at DCRP. Gearhart, who started 4th, wasted no time finding the lead in this race. Once a couple green flag laps were ran, Gearhart was lights out.
In the IMCA Stock Cars, Troy Burkhart of Hays, Kansas, stole the show and the flag in Friday nights 20 lap feature. Great racing through the field, but for Troy, it was just smooth coasting all night long. Troy is also running double duty this weekend with the Late Model. “I don’t mean it, but after tonight I am done” said Burkhart. “I’m so dang tired, but man, we have had a fast Stock car, just need to do better with the Late Model” added Troy.
The IMCA Modifieds presented a heart thrilling show as well, with Brett Berry and Clay Sellard hogging up the headlines. Lap traffic certainly played a mark in this race too. With mostly green flag conditions, the front runners didn’t take long to catch the tail end. Lap after lap, fans watch as Sellard and Berry would exchange moves for the top spot, but in the end it was Clay Sellard grabbing the win.
